A specific entry into further information searches is provided by New Approach Standardisation in the Internal Market ( inkluding links to harmonized standards and further information) For the search for specific documents with known number (see table above) the EUR-Lex search site is recommended. In the directives above, the first number is always the number of the directive, the second number the year of its adoption. For a general start, the portal of the European Union may be useful. If you cannot find something on the EU servers, there is a summary for every directive available by a specialised office of engineers (German only): www.ce-zeichen.de.

(Harmonsed) EN standards(CEN/CENELEC)

The CEN is the body for standards on the European level. Generally, EN standards are nothing else than national standards: They describe the state of the art, their application is volontary, adhering to them however eases the the dealings with customers and users, with state agencies in general and trade supervisory centers in particular, with attorneys and judges etc. in case of any doubts. Harmonised standards carry a special status: They have been "officially" accepted to specify in more detail the requirements implemented by a EC directive: Adherence to harmonised standards means that it seems to be the case that conformity with the main requirements of the corresponding directive is given.

The list of directives and subjects provides a list for the EU harmonised standards for each directive. Further searches about directives and harmonised standards allows the server New Approach. EN standards in general, their title and possible their reference to EU directives can be researched on: CENELEC und CEN (mirrored on: CEN). If a standard is available in different languages, on CENELEC (as nessecary, click "Published / in progress") the title can be found in the different languages (unfortunately not the text of the standard): Enter the number of the standard in the search field and start the search.
